Hi Sara, They were written in a Will and the term is used repeatedly so I am pretty certain that they were never married for whatever reason! Thanks to all for your help. Jackie |

I agree with Helen. Perhaps that is what the "family lore" is, but it hasn't been proven. |

Without the context, I suggest it means she appears to be his wife but they're not convinced, i.e. living in sin. |
