Phillip, thank you so much!! It didn't occur to me to look on freebmd as i've been using 1837online since i have a lot of people that i couldn't find on freebmd. I'm pretty sure that that is my James, as his wife was born 1853, and so it would make his age near enough for them to by hubby and wife. I'm still trying to find out more about how he died, but now i know when he died it'll may be easier! Thanks again, Nicola

Would the death of a policeman whilst on duty be recorded in a newpaper? My grandma's grandfather was attacked by the criminal that he was trying to arrest, and died later from his injuries. I don't know when this would be, probably between 1901 (still alive on census) and 1920. (when my grandma was born and went to live with her grandma.) His name was James William Gover, and he was from Berkshire. If anyone has anysuggestions i'd be very grateful as it would cost a lot of mony to trawl through each year on 1837 online! Thanks very much, Nicola
