Hi all Does anyone know where I might be able to find old newspaper reports from the 1920s Finchley? My Great Uncle was killed in a cricket accident, so the family story goes, hit between the eyes by a cricket ball. The trouble is, I don't know what year this would have been, and was thinking that it might have been reported in the local newspaper. I would send for a death cert, but as I don't know the year, it would prove to be a bit expensive on the 1837 site to look, I have looked for other deaths on there before and spent a fortune without luck. Thanks to anyone who might know, bearing in mind I live in holland, and cannot get to a nearby library, was hoping there might be something on the net. Here's hoping Lisa xx

Hello Lisa, You might be able to find the informaton you want from back copies of the "Barnet Press" (address on the internet under Barnet Press). I have vague memories of this local weekly newspaper having a Finchley edition. Barbara

Hello Lisa, Try contacting 'FINCHLEY C.C.' They will have memorabilia going back to the start of the club. The telephone directory should prove useful or directory enquiries. The name & address of the club secretary will be available from Finchley local library. Your local library will be able to give you address/ phone number of this. Good luck.......Marion.

Hi Marion Yes, I have contacted Finchley Cricket Club, and had a very nice reply. They unfortunately do not have any info from the 1920s, but the chap said that they do have some old newspaper clippings, but he is so busy, he cannot look anything out for me till September!! I am going to send him the photo I have of my Great Uncle with his team, then at least he might be able to tell me if the club was Finchley that he played for or not. (The photo looks earlier though, more like the late 1910s, my great uncle looks rather young (he was born in 1902). I will have to see. Barbara I had a look on the Barnet Press site, but couldn't find anything. Thanks both of you for your replies. Lisa xx
