Hi Ive just found another new relative thanks to GC. Now ive found my new relative, i now have proof that one line of my family were involved in the Sally Army in a big way. I know there is a Salvation Army website and ive had a look about the service they offer in looking for your ancestors. I do not mind paying a fee, as its about £5 for half a day. However i have many relatives from 1880`s -1930`s and thats just the ones i know about. This would just cost to much. So i was wondering if anybody knew if there was another way to go about this. Like maybe there is a place where i could look at the records for myself. The area iam looking for is Faversham Kent. I do not know where the Salvation Army was situated in Faversham or if theres a Salvation Army still there. Any help would be great thank you. Sarah

Hi A Chap in my work who is in the Army says that you should be able to find the address of the nearest Citadel to Faversham on their website and then write to them asking for any info they might have. Caroline

Hi Sarah, Just thinking - strange coincidence. I found I had an Arkell in my tree then I see you looking in Faversham. My grandfather William Rickwood was born in Faversham. Anything you find out about Faversham I would be pleased to know about. Good luck. Christine

Hi Sarah Their website is www(.)salvationarmy(.)org(.)uk make sure you remember the uk at the end otherwise you get their international site. It's easy to find their centres in this way, and I'm sure that the officer in charge of the relevant centre/corps would be happy to give you advice. My in-laws are (retired) SA officers, my sister-in-law is an active officer, and my husband and I were both brought up in the SA (although now attend local church due to location). I don't have access to any archives etc, but if you think I could help with any general info, please feel free to contact me. Good luck! Mandy

I had no fee to pay when I requested an obituary from 'The War Cry' for my Great-Aunt.I found the staff on-line very helpful. Mary

Thanks everyone , I will try and find out where the nearest one is and give them ring. Rather than going through the website. The only thing i was worried about was the fact i had so many of them in the salvation Army ,some where Majors and Officers etc. They also had Salvation Army funerals . I would think its a bit of a cheek to ask about so many. Sarah

MY GRandparents were in the Salvation army in Addlestone, Surrey. I believe they had Salvation Army funerals too.
