Hi Margaret: I know exactly how you are feeling. I've quit twice now with my Mumford ancestors. I started researching 25 years ago (off and on researching during that time) and I've yet to find proof of my ancestor's birth. But, during the past three years, with the help of my computer (and GC members!!!!), I've found out more about the Mumfords than I did in the 22 years prior. Perhaps someone will have a suggestion of where to try next -- if not, try researching another line, then start again. Have you tried a google search? I did that, typing his name, places, dates, occupation, etc. and found two things that I wouldn't have otherwise, one possibly being him on a census in a neighbouring county. Good luck!

Just had another thought - if you give his name and possible years and approximate place of death the clever people on here may be able to help with suggestions. Cheers Chris

Christine... I can sympathise abotu the SMITH's, I have a LONG line of them !! I have a few dead ends at the moment, but I'm confident I'll break them down eventually !

Just a thought - I was struggling to find my Grandmothers death, thinking that I knew where she died. When I finally found it, she had been taken to hospital and died on route, but the certificate came under the hospital area, not where she lived. I know it gets frustrating sometimes, but if you give it a rest for a week or so and then come back to it, sometimes you get a fresh idea. It's worth it when you finally find what you are looking for - or so I keep telling myself on my marathon search for a SMITH/Spencer marriage!!!! Cheers Chris

Margaret Hope you feel better now you've had a moan! Don't give up, sometimes when I haven't found something its because I've been looking in the wrong place - either geographically or date. Keep an open mind. You never know! Helen

Hi I think I am now wasting my time after looking for a death for 2years and getting it down to a gap of 2 years still cannot find it, having been to the records office many times and getting a search done at the local office where I thought he died and phoned cemeterys i have had no luck, and looking for deaths at sea and wills, i now think it is time to call it a day. I have tried every way, I did think that a death certificate would have been quite simple to find, just having a moan Margaret
