I have just been given some information that a family member was a canon in barking church. Does anyone have any ideas as to how i go about finding any information on this subject. I can only guess it would of been during the early 1930's as i am told he was a regular visiter to the house of my 2nd great grand aunt, who was born in 1890. Any website suggestions or offers of advice or tips are greatly appreciated to help me trace this new lead.. Thank you Tracey

Hello Tracy, Write a letter to the diocese, explaining what it is that you want, It is better to write a letter, that way your are sure to get a reply. Give them a couple of week's, dont forget these things have to be found. I wish you well. Janet

Tracy, If you mean Barking in Essex, you could try looking on BT's website for a list of churches in the area; even if none of them stand out as being a Catholic name, any one of the ministers would be glad to tell you which are the Catholic ones if you ring them. I'm actually Methodist, but my son goes to a Catholic school, I have a Catholic sister-in-law, and a Catholic friend, so can find out anything you want to know! Good luck.

Tracy Go into Google and type 'roman catholic church barking essex'. It comes up with a lot of helpful web-sites.

As a thought - try Westminster Cathedral in London (The Cathedral being the Catholic church - on par with the church of England Westminster Abbey) Afraid I do not know the address. Regards Liz

Try your local library reference section for a book that registers all of them. I think the C of E one is called Crockford's Clerical Directory but I do know that there is definitely some kind of RC version and it will be nationwide too. Regards Abigail
