I have read somewhere about the age girls could get married. I think it was as young as 14 does anyone know the years this applies too. Please Ian Stanford

The age was 12 for a girl, 14 for a boy but parents consent required if under 21. The age changed to 16 in the 1920s but age of consent stayed at 21 until 70s/8os? now 18. I've read somewhere that although marriage was permitted at such a young age it was actually rare for it to take place under 16 or 17. Judith
