My local FHC (Exhibition Rd, London) usually check the film numbers against the computer records just to make sure they are not holding that particular film in stock - and they do have a pretty extensive stock.

Hi To add another note to my message of yesterday and following further messages relating to actually visiting the centres. The films I ordered for Worcs and Glos were *out of area* for me as I'm in Leicestershire and I was advised you do have to go to the centre to order them, because you have to pay for the films you are ordering - in advance. And although I took with me details (batch nos, etc) from the Familysearch website, they still said they had to check on their catalogue that the items were available. Barbara

You can order any of the records they have in the family history library catalogue, from all over the world. Some are on film, some on fiche. The volunteers who are in the centres are usually very helpful. They don't all have the BMD's.I've been asking my local one in Kirkaldy to get them for ages! I was there quite a lot last year, ordered loads of films and got loads of information. Wendy

I've also been considering visiting an LDS centre, but not got around to it. I was put off, by having to go once to order the films (I need parish registers for a totally different area). Does anyone know if there is anywhere online, where you can see what records are available? I could then post an order - and go in when they are available. With two small kids and a job - I have very limited time for such outings. Ann

Hi I was at one today. Ordered some parish records for a part of Worcestershire and 2 census (Worcestershire 1841) and (Gloucester 1871). It was my first visit. People very helpful and said the films take about 2 weeks to arrive (cost was £2.70 per item). Each item is then available to you for one month to use at the LDS centre - this can be extended if noone else needs the film you're using. They apparently tel to let me know when it all arrives, and then I have to book a film reader for the day(s) I want to go in. I was quite impressed. It was lovely and quiet in there, so no interruptions while searching. Hope this helps. Barbara

Hi, They will have BMD 1837 onwards for the whole country,If they have not got what you want they will get it for you at a small charge then they keep it. this is how they build up their stock, same with parish records. You really need to phone befor you go if you want something specific, they are quite happy for you to drop in but may not have a viewer available at the time.I have used my one hear in Plymouth many times and found them very helpful.Hope this helps a bit. Good hunting Jan.

There's a few in Birmingham but haven't been able to get through on the phone. Has anyone been and what do you do - bring with you etc? Book, order or what? Do they have access to records from whole country or just locally? Do they have more than whats on the LDS site? Access to parish records? My problem people are in Berwick on Tweed, Burnley and Scotland and Isles so far - will they have anything I can look up. If I need records from elsewhere what do I do to be able to view them. Costs etc. Sorry but I just don't have a clue. Does anyone know?
