Can anyone help as I have just found out that a relation joind the RAF during WW1. He was a 2nd Air Mechanic but became Leading Aircraftsman. Thank you Jenny

Are you sure it was WW1? It's just that I thought it was the Royal Flying Corps (part of the Army) in WW1 and the Royal Air Force was formed afterwards as a separate entity. My uncle was killed in 1917 with the Royal Flying Corps.

I too believe the RAF was the Royal Flying Corp during the FWW. Try contacting the RAF Association at 117 Loughborough Road Leicester LE4 5ND Telephone 0116 266 5224 perhaps they can put you in the right direction. Good luck.

The RAF was formed in 1918 from the Royal Flying Ciorps (Army) and the Royal Naval Air Service(Navy). Your relation was in one of them as a 2nd Air Mechanic pre the formation of the RAF and became a Leading Aircraftman. Regards. Keith
