Does anybody know if the people who died abroad in the first world war had their deaths reigstered in the normal way and if so was it by the regiment they served with or was it their next of kin? Hope someone can help. Gen

The General Register Office web site gives this info: The Overseas Section holds the volumes containing overseas records at the GRO's Southport head office, the vast majority of which are indexed and on view to the public at the Family Records Centre (FRC). Enquiries to either location should be able to help you find details of births, marriages and deaths of British citizens that have taken place abroad since the late 18th century, including: .....................................war deaths, including World Wars I and II, and the Boer War ..................................................' I should think these would have been recorded by the batallians in which they served. Judith
