Boer War- thoughts

There is a plaque in West Bromwich Town Hall for the Boer war which lists a Thomas Callear as having fought. I have tried to trace him on the 1901 and found a Thomas Callear (Colear) living in West Brom aged 19 and described as a plasterer. Could it be him? The Boer war did not end till 1902. Or could there have been two. I am assuming that men away fighting would not appear on any census? Regards Helena |

You are right in that men away fighting would not appear on the census. As a bold statement I would say that there are 2 Thomas's and the 19yr old is not your man. Keith |
