I an new to this and I am finding it difficult. My grandfather was George Longstaff and he died around 1984 and was cremated at Scunthorpe crematorium. My Grandmother Alice Jones was also cremated here around 1988 and one of my Uncles William Longstaff around 1965. Are there any web sites that view data in these years. If I wrote to the crematorium would they send me details or his that confidential until a certain time, or would the register office give me any details withnot having the exact knowledge. Because I do not know their dates of births and their exact dates of death I am finding it diffficult to look at the next generation above. grateful for any advice

Vanessa The register office should do a search for you if you give them as much info as you can. A death certificate will cost £7.50. Write to them and they usually do it by return of post. The crematorium should also be able to help but may take a little longer, they would only be able to give you the date of the cremation and if the ashes are buried with them. Although they may tell you if there is a rose bush etc planted in memory of the person. If the ashes were returned to the family, you may not find out where they were scattered. Hope this helps Deborah
