How can I find their birthdates?

I've been searching for the birth records of William Wakeham (c.1854) and William Herrick (c.1856) and both appear to have slipped through the net. William Herrick was probably born in Aston, Warwick, and William Wakeham probably in Stonehouse, Devon. Neither are on 1837online or IGI. I can't physically travel to these places and I wouldn't know where to send a letter even if I wanted to write one. What can I do?!

Kathryn, have you tried advanced search on Ancestry? I spotted one Wiliam Wakeham born q/e June 1853 reg dist. Kingsbridge 5b 205. This could be him, and there are others.

Thanks Steph, that could be him - it's in the right county for starters! I suppose I'll have to order it with crossed fingers.
