Having had mixed success in tracing my ancestors, I have however drawn pretty much a blank when it comes to discovering and other children apart from my immediate ancestors. Can anybody please advise Gary

FamilySearch is the LDS site (LDS stands for Latter Day Saints). You can search the IGI section of the site using parents' names.

IGI = International Genealogical Index. It is an index taken from parish registers of baptisms and marriages. Not all areas are covered, and what is included isn't comprehensive. Address www.freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm. Easy to follow instructions will take you to county, then parish, then the batch nos. C numbers are baptisms, M numbers are marriages - the dates covered are usually listed alongside. Click on this and it opens a window for you to type the name you are looking for - or you can leave it blank to bring up all records. The records are alphabetical and use soundex eg Matthews/Mathews and Chowns/Chouns will be together. Click an individual record to get details. NB: the IGI is a guide only. You need to check with the actual register to verify details. LDS site is www.familysearch.org. Happy hunting. Helen
