Hi I have just found out that My GGGG Grandmother was sentenced to 6 months hard labour for aiding and abetting her son who stold a sheep. Now he was sent to Van Diemens Land Tasmania, do you think that she could have gone ther too or would she have stayed in England, but what sort of place would she have done her labour in and would there have been records somewhere. This happened in 1837. Any ideas please. Debbie

She would probably have gone to her nearest prison. What county was she in? You could google it and go from there. I could be wrong but I believe the shortest transportation sentence was 7 years. The journey alone took months so it would not have been worth transporting people for such a short sentence.

Hi Confused and Kathryn Have tried the prison website but no luck and she came from Southampton Hampshire. And the prisons I found were opened after 1837. I shall keep on googling. Thanks for the tips Debbie
