Hi Donna, Yes possibly. I have updated my original message to ask if anyone could check spelling variations. Records I do have which go back to 1817 always spell it correctly. Where I do have him on a census and on previous census where I have found other family members the name is spelt as Houghton. I have his mother for example in 1851, 1871 and 1881 and the spelling is always right. Rose

Also posted on Records board. Hi, Asking, with the correct information for a lookup on the 1891 Census has so far been unsuccessful in finding my great grandfather Henry HOUGHTON. I am sure the family must be there somewhere. At present I only have him in 1881 in (Tooting Graveney, with wrong age) and 1901 (age out by 8 years and no place of birth - in an asylum in Kent, retired painter) In 1891 the correct details should be. Henry HOUGHTON (married) born 1852 (age 38/9) born City of London- occupation-painter and grainer/house decorater. Is it possible to look for him just with his name and occupation, possibly using variations of his surname? He was in the Whitechapel area in 1886 and not in the asylum in 1891. Other family members should be wife, Annie/Nancy HOUGHTON, age c.37/39, (1881 says born Whitechapel but no birth record found - possibly born in Ireland) Children - Annie HOUGHTON born 1874 (age c.17)Whitechapel/Mile End. Margaret HOUGHTON born 1880 (age c.11) Tooting/Streatham. Both children found in St George-in-the- East on 1901 census. Any help much appreciated. Also unable to find him in 1871, when he would have been unmarried. He married in 1874 in Bethnal Green and was then a baker. Rose
