Where is South Amwell

South Amwell could be a tiny hamlet, or even a farm. One of my great grandmothers died at South Hedgeley in Northumberland. This was actually just a pair of cottages dating from about 1902, one of which had been built for her and her family to rent. To check further you would need to look on really large-scale maps, probably in a nearby main library. Stan

Thank you everbody, I did find an Amwell St in the Isle of Dogs district of London. Maybe that's what he meant. Helen

Try the FreeBMD site - if you go to the main page, then click on information, there is a link to districts, where you can get more information. I tried looking it up for you, but responses are slow at the moment.

My source for this place is the 1881 census print-out from the LDS site. George Anderson was born there. He spent the rest of his life, as far as I can tell in Poplar. Helen

Helen What is your source for this place? I ask because it isn't on my ukmap website or in my atlas of Great Britain. There is an Amwell in Hertfordshire, between Harpenden and Wheathampstead. There's also a Little Amwell and a Great Amwell to the south of Hertford, near the Essex border. Helen
