HI Donna I do not know when he married Rose but in 1890 they had a five year old daughter, She was born in Wakefield in approx 1864, but I do not have the son's ebenezer birth certificate so I do not even have her surname (they were travelling at the time as James appeared in music halls and it is possible that it was not registered) Linda P

I see that in 1901 he was an "acrobar on stage" living in Leeds, where all of his children were born. I've found a couple of James', born Birmingham, living Yorks of about the right age - do you know his father's name? Or could he have used his mother's maiden name (as a stage name) perhaps? Linda, Looking for your man - haven't found him yet, tho think I found his mother and sisters. Have found a James Grantley born 1856 Birmingham, working as a valet in Wales - could it be that his surname is spelt incorrectly. I have one branch of my family where the surname is spelt differently on every census!! Maggie
