Pauline, You made my brain hurt trying to follow your story! I love doing my research but do worry about what I will discover next! I don't ever wish for a smaller family, but just wonder where this one will end! I am eternally grateful for the unusual surnames on my Mam's side!

Sally you are nor alone!! My g.g.grandmother married my maternal grandmothers brother. Her son by another man bearing the same surname as her maiden name was brought up as as her nephew. So when grandad and grandma married and had children gggran was known to them as g.g.aunt!! Is this giving me a headache! Pauline

Thank you to all for your advice. And I thought my family was confusing! Mind you, I haven't yet got round to the Ukrainian Great Grandad arsonist bigamist who changed his name on arrival in the UK with his mother, an heiress to a shipping fortune who ran away with a ship-worker! Nor the artist who married a relative whose daughter married his father! I have had a reply from GC, who say they 'are looking into it'. It seems ridiculous that this is so difficult, especially as it is clearly easy in other programs! Mind you, they still haven't managed to make deleting accidental duplicate relatives easy!

my grandmother and grandfather were cousins, their mother's were sisters. also, my great grandfather was married twice. his first wife died during childbirth, he then married his first wife's niece (one of the sisters i just mentioned)! and then his brother-in-law married his cousin! it's all very confusing! i use Family Tree Maker, and then export my tree out as GEDCOm file to upload onto GenesConnected, that way i don't have to enter duplicate information. stew

Hi Sally, I have cousins marrying in my tree and the only way is to enter the person twice at the moment, did email GC normal standard response of not possible at the moment but is being looked at. Kind regards zoë

Hi Sally, I had the same problem. I don't think there's a way round it if you enter your details direct to GC but now I use Family Historian to build my tree on my PC and then upload the tree to GC. This program, and others probably, allows you to link to existing members of families with no problem. Judith

I did leave this message on the General Topics board, but didn't realise quite how wide the topics are--'thongs v knickers' seems to be the latest debate! Thought my query might get more attention here, so here goes! My grandparents were first cousins, therefore many members of my family are related to each other twice. For example, my Great grandmother, Alice Goffin, was mother-in-law to my grandfather, but also his great aunt! As I have a very large family, this is causing me big problems! I cannot see how to get around it without putting relations in twice, which seems silly, especially as the site makes it so very difficult to delete people if you make a mistake! i'm sure I am not alone in this problem--all help appreciated! Many thanks.
