Christine I couldn't find my gt grandfather's birth cert although I had his exact date of death on his gravestone. He had a very common name, so I was looking for him in the registration district of the village where he is buried. The local registrar's office had no record of his death either. I contacted the County Records office, who checked the burials list for my gt grandfather's village and told me that my ancestor had NOT died in the village, as I'd thought, but in North London. I found his death was registered in this district and I am now awaiting his death cert to see the address where he died and then I will work out how they transported him back to Norfolk for burial!

Hi Pat, Thanks for the reply to my help message, Lucy Cornish was born in Batheaston Somerset (nee Baker) in 1865, info from 1901 census, she died Bridgwater Somerset in 1940 (on her headstone) I have sent you an email with this info in it, but was having trouble sending it, so if it arrived sorry for the duplicate. Thanks again for the help and your time it is appreciated Chris

Christine, If you know where she died, apply to the local Register Office for the certificate. You only need to give the full name, place and date of death. They do not need a reference no. Phone them first to check, but most need only the details, a cheque for £7 and a stamped addressed envelope. The original records were copied for the GRO records and as in everything else human error means some records were missed or lost. Good luck with your hunting, Rosemary(Essex)

Please has anyone any suggestions on finding the death of Lucy Cornish (nee baker) according to her headstone she died in 1940. I have looked on web site 1837, cannot find it. Any suggestions would be appriciated.
