Can i add my twins were born in Oct 1995, and duly registered but the offical entry for their birth is now registered in 2002 which is when we changed their name. I am not sure how this works but was told that if they applied for their birth certs the first entry would be croosed out and they would be refered to the re- registration in 2002!!!

I've only relied on 1837 a few times before ordering certificates but this time there seems to be a mistake with the entry as I tried to get the death entry for a man and the local office tell me the only one they have is for a baby. Valerie.

Helen, That made me laugh! As you can see, my father was asked that question!! Caused me endless problems when I first started school - everyone thought I was spelling it wrong! EliSabeth

I have a friend who worked as a registrar. One day a woman came in to register her 13th child, Elizabeth. Wanting to make sure she wrote it correctly, my friend said "Is that with a z or an s?" The woman looked puzzled and said "with an e"!:-)

Hi All Thanks for the info have been and checked the full certificate I was registered on 30th august 1970 only 2 days after i was born at home. My dad informs me that a registrar came to the house to register me, have not heard of this befor as he was a little tipsy due to celebrating my birth, my name was supposed to be Cerise as in the colour but got a little mixed up, maybe it never got transcribed from origanal record this registrar made, i am "only" 33 and it has made no difference. But will order a full from the office i was registered at and check, as both the full and short certificate have been done at the same time by this registrar and no-one has ever applied for another. Have emailed 1837 and will let you know what they have got to say if they reply Cherrese

when me and my girlfriend were at the FRC last year she decided to look up her mum... and couldnt find her. turns out for some reason they got her name wrong! she was Janet Ann, but was registered as Ann Janet. I've also noticed this has happened on other occasions and I know my dad had some problems with his birth certficate a few years ago because they registered him as Malcolm but his name is actually Melvyn. the registrar misheard the name stew

Check the date on the small certificates maybe they were registered late and a handwritten entry was then added to the wrong year. I mean the registration date not the birth date. KIM

Hi Cherrese, My great nanny is not on 1837 but I found someone with exact same name born in London one qtr out of her birth date so thought I had found something hidden in the old family tree but alas when ordered certificate had different parents then thought maybe she was adopted etc but then my aunt found the small birth certificate so she was definitely registered, just need to order the correct cert now! zoë

There are a few that I couldnt find either, so I dont reckon it can be complete. I just want to say Cherrese what a lovely name, I bet you have to spell it out to people. My little girl is Chenise and yes I have to spell it out to everybody. Debbie

DON'T PANIC......If you have a birth cert, full or short, you were definitely registered. You must have the details on the cert you already have, in order to request a full one. telephone the register office on the certificate and request a full cert now. Best Wishes Sam

I only have a small birth certificate for myself and as i had a few credits left for 1837 thought i would lookup myself to get the codes to order a full certificate online but i am not listed i even checked the quarters on either side but according to them i have not been registered. how do i rectify the matter, di i contact 1837 or what. i must have been registered or i would not have my own certificate and i believe my father has a full. cherrese
