Hi Jeanette I think you will need to download the latest stinger to get rid of this virus as stinger usually do an update when there is a new virus. Hope your Mum soon gets rid of it. Rosemary

If you've got the Sasser worm you didn't download the Microsoft critical updates from 13th April. This would have prevented the virus. windowsupdate.microsoft*com There are automatic reminders for these in the bottom right of your screen. Crista

My computer got it too, if you dont have your firewall on turn it on immediately, this reduces its harm. press control alt delete together, I think it stops it shutting down. These details are on the microsoft website so go from there as I've forgotten all the steps. Update your virus scanner every day if possible, more viruses are hitting the net every day and they're getting real clever. I only wish they'd catch a big one themselves.

Linda I have previously downloaded something called stinger on to Mums computer during the last spate of viuses. Will this do the trick or does it need updating? Jeanette

Sounds like Sasser! I speak from experience!!! You can certainly download a romoval tool and patch - but not on a floppy. The files are too big. You'll need a CD. I downloaded 'Stinger' to remove Sasser (and a lot of other nasties). Go to Google and type in 'Stinger'. It is a free tool provided by McAfee. You will also need the Windows patch for her relevant operating system. Go to Windows Updates and search for Sasser. Good luck!

I think my Mums computer has been infected by the sasser worm. She keeps getting a message on her screen saying that an error has been detected and that the computer will shut down in so many seconds. It then starts counting down. I can't remember everything the error message said but there was a bit which said 32/sass.exe. As I have not been infected is it possible for me to download something onto floppy that will cure her pc? Thanks. Jeanette
