Thanks Geoff, I hadn't thought of that. I do know I definitely have the right person so I won't worry. Now to find her death.....

Any certificate will have been transcribed (possibly twice) so there is always the potential for a mistake.

I thought about that and checked it thoroughly and it's definitely 30. Her first husband was 28 so I had a "2" to compare it to.

Do you think the marriage cert said 20 rather than 30? That would be easier to pass off!

I've been looking for my GG Grandmother Louisa Caroline Penfold. She married Alfrd Cornelius Walles in Jan 1862 and her marriage cert says she was 30. She had 3 or 4 children with him then he died in 1875. She re-married in 1879 to Edward Palmer and her marriage cert just said widow of full age. I found her on the 1881 & 1891, definitely her with children from first marriage under their fathers surname and children from new marriage under the name Palmer. However it has her age as consistently 37 & 47. I searched today and finally found her birth cert from 1844 making the census ages correct. I know people lied about their ages but could an 18 year old pass for 30? I know I definitely have the right person.
