not the originals at the local register office or the copies at the GRO. But for church marriages there are two originals, and the church's register may be available. Usually at the county record office, and some have been filmed

Hi If you are looking post 1837 ; 1. You find the marriage for example William Fairy m. Martha Ellen Trewin in Chelsea. Jun Qtr 1869 2. You discover what/how many/names of churches were in the area during the time frame you want. It helps to have an address and then you can search maps for likely parishes. Download the parish locator it's free. 3. You discover where the records are held (either at the LMA, a library like B'ham, or sometimes the Church itself 4. Ask if anyone is visiting that "resource centre' and will note/photocopy the entry for you. If you are not prepared to do the homework or cannot spare the time it is easier to get the cert from the GRO or local Registry office. 5. You might be lucky and find an actual date on the IGI or by getting the films from your local LDS centre. Pre 1837 is more difficult unless there is only one likely church and you are lucky enough to find some one who can search for you. Happy hunting Marlene
