I'm fairly new to all this, so sorry if this is a very silly question! I want to obtain a copy of my grandmother's death certificate, but as she only died in July 2003, it doesn't appear yet on 1837online. I need volume and page numbers to order the certificate from GRO, so where would I get these from? I might add that there is no contact between myself and birth mother, so can't get any info from her !! Thanks for your help. Mandy

If you know where she died, try contacting the local registrar's office where her death was registered. If you know the exact date she died, then you should be able to get a copy from the GRO - try emailing or phoning them and asking how you go about this without the references. Hope this helps, Judith

You don't need the ref for GRO certificates. Just give the Month and year, along with her name and where she died. They will search for you.

Mandy, For all deaths registered in the last 18 months you need to contact the district where the death was registered direct. GRO will not be able to help.I had exactly the same thing.Hope this saves you some time. Elaine. x

Thanks Elaine, I wish I'd checked out my thread and seen your reply before I got on the GRO website after work today .... and discovered what you had kindly replied! I shall now get on to the local registrar's office - hopefully they will be open full-time as it's a big city. Thanks again, Mandy
