Hello, Back in Feb 1985 I wrote to the GRO at St Catherines House in Kingsway London WC2B 6JP as I wanted info on my family from the census 1901 some 84 years earlier. If you state in your letter that you are researching your family tree. You will get an answer. You will need to quote the address and surname that they were living at. Kellys Directory gave me my grand fathers address. The fee charged back in 1985 was £19.26. I seem to recall that if there was anyone else also at the address i. e. a lodger, that name would not be given. The info that they gave me was just names, ages and place of birth. Therefore I got my great grand father and his wife and their 4 children of which one was my grand father. If the rules are still the same as back in 1985 then you should be also able to get the 1921 census as well. Let me know how you get on. David Hodge

Someone was telling me that because people are living longer, they are considering EXTENDING the 100 year rule, rather than shortening it. Grr! PB

Just received another letter from my mp Ivan Henderson. He's sent a copy of the letter he received from the Dept. for Constitutional Affairs. Basically saying what was on another thread, that the rules set out in 1966 for the 100 year rule, which have been on every census form since 1981, will be adhered too. Also that the National Archives is now beginning to develop plans for online access in 2012. Lets hope they at least learn from the 1901 fiasco, and we don't have to wait any longer. Diane
