Pollington is a Parish of its own in Yorkshire West Riding. It is south of Snaith, a small town west of Goole. It now lies sandwiched between the M62 and the Aire and Calder Canal. It was in the Selby Registration District in 1837, but moved to the Goole Registration District in 1838 and stayed there until modern times. I hope you find it on the Hugh Wallis site. Best wishes Stan

http(:)//freepages(.)genealogy(.)rootsweb(.)com/~hughwallis/ has the IGI batch numbers for parishes . If you know in which Parish Pollington lies , this might be useful. Good Luck

Hi Helen, The place he was born is a relatively small place. It is called Pollington and I can search for Pollington as a census place and narrow down my search results. What I would like to do (and I don't think it is possible) is to search in the same way but with Pollington as a birthplace. This would show anyone born in Pollington anywhere in the country (in theory) and if john is in there somewhere I could find him. don't ask me where he is.....his wife and family are in Pollington but John isnt although he is reunited with wife and family on 1891 and 1901 census. I think that would be exhausting! not sure if it is possible, but you could try. Alternatively, why has he disappeared? How old was he/where was he born. Has he been mistranscribed as Marrison or another permutation?

Does anyone know if it is possible to search the LDS 1881 census site by place of birth. I am looking for John Harrison, who seems to have disapeared off the 1881 census. I wondered if I could search just by where someone was born it would list all people born there, and I could possibly find my missing chap. I know it is possible to search by census place but as far as I can see the birthplace is restricted to country and county. Jenny
