Can't find a birth

I have searched 1837Online again, searching for Augusta, even though I was sure I would have spotted it it first time around, when I was looking for Annie. I still had no luck tracking down her birth, but at least I now have the names of both parents and 8 of her brothers and sisters, thanks to you wonderful people.

Sarah's place of birth is listed as Stroudwater in the 1881 census, too. Thanks for the extra details/siblings, Amanda. None of them were on the 1881 census, so that is 4 more names for my tree. Thank goodness Charles is one of them, that confirms what I thought about the marriage witness.

Stroudwater was the name of the canal from Stroud to the Severn - I don't think there's a place called that.

Thanks for that Amanda. Now I have her mother's name, I have found the family on the 1881 census and found the names of some of her siblings. I have a feeling there is (at least) one missing though - the eldest child listed on the census was born in 1864, 6 years after Annie. She was already married by 1881 and one of the witnesses on the marriage certificate is Charles Wheatley. I suspect he is the eldest brother, born between Annie in 1858 and James in 1864. He is not on the 1881 census, so he may have already married & left the family home. But do you think I can find his birth, marriage or census record? Of course not! Yet another brick wall for me to chip away at...

Brilliant, thanks for finding all that for me! I didn't even know about the first 2 children, I thought Charles was the eldest! I found a grandson of Charles through this site, I will have to let him know about our new relatives too. Unfortunately, I don't think the 1860 birth is my great-gran - her age/place of birth are consistent in the 1891 & 1901 censuses and St Pancras isn't near Isleworth. I love this site - a big thanks to everyone who helps others.

This is them on the 1891: 7 Church Alley, New Brentford, Middx. RG12/1032, Folio 145, Page 23 Thomas Hankin, H, 36, General labourer, Royston, Cambs. Annie, W, 33, Isleworth Thomas, Son, 14, General labourer. James, Son, 12. Charles, Son, 11. William, Son, 8. Elizabeth, Daur, 7. Henry, Son, 4. Emily, Daur, 2. Edward, Son, 2 months. All the children were born in Isleworth, except the youngest, who was born in Brentford. Hope that helps.

Thanks Suzanne. Her husband was Thomas George Hankin. They lived in the Isleworth/Brentford area. He was born just outside Royston, but over the Cambridgeshire border. His place of birth was just given as Royston on the 1901 census, & probably says the same on the 1891 census if you find the household. They already had a few kids by then.

No, so far the only one I've found her on is 1901. She was married in 1880, so her name would be Hankin. Middlesex doesn't seem to be too well represented on the censuses.

Carole. What was her married surname? I will look on the 1891 for you.

Carole, Have you found her on the 1891? What's her place of birth on that? Emma.

I have tried to find the birth index for my great-grandmother, Annie Wheatley. According to the 1901 Census she was 43, born in Isleworth, Middx. I have searched on FreeBMD and 1837online from 1856 to 1860 without any luck. I have her marriage certificate but that just gives her age as "full". Her father is James Wheatley. I had no luck finding her (or her husband) on the 1881 Census. Any ideas on how to find her birth?
