Site above [with statistics in address] is GRO official site. Once you've registered it is easy to do repeat orders online, though you need to pay by credit/debit card. They cost £7, but they will do [limited] search or check of details for £11.50 [they refund part of this if can't supply a cert]. Takes about 8 days at the moment. Local register offices seem to vary in their response - Ldn Borough of Richmond did mine by return of post and were v. courteous when I e-mailed. Some aren't even on e-mail yet! Cambridge has own BMD search and order forms online.

The website above is the one to order certificates costing £7, but you need the GRO Index ref, otherwise it costs more, £11 I think. You can get the Index ref from FreeBMD if you are lucky, or 1837online otherwise. On here, you'll have to pay at least £5 to buy searches, so it is only worthwhile if you've got more than one certificate to buy. However, once you've been bitten by the Family Tree bug, you'd be surprised at how many certificates you just can't live without. I've lost count of the number of times I've just bought £5 worth of searches, as I only had a few to do...
