Samantha If you can find out when they died, the death index will have their age at death (if death was after 1866) and will have the birth-date (if death was after 1969). However, bear in mind that the accuracy of this depended solely on the memory/knowledge of the person who informed of the death, so once again, this info needs to be treated with caution until you have found the actual birth registration. Sam, this evening I have been researching my gt.gt. grandmother and doing very well...except:on the 1881 census they have her as 47.On the 1901 they have her as 70 and on her death cert. in 1912 they have her as 73!!! Age is a movable feast in genealogy.

Sam Sometimes ages are given on marriage certificates, sometimes it just says "of full age" which means old enough to be married without parent/guardian's consent. Very irksome! If no age is given, you can make rough assumptions that most folk married around 25-35. I have a youngest bride aged 16 in my tree, and an oldest groom of 47 - he fathered four children after the marriage. Most of the women in my family had children until they were around 42/43 unless they died earlier. Average number of children in a family was about 6-8, with gaps of about 2 years on average.

hi, this is probably a really stupid question - but when you lovely people out there do a search & find a marriage - does it have the ages of the people on there? i am trying to look up a dob for a person but all i have got is their name, who they married & when i have found a "date" for their birth but it means that they would have been 45 when they got married & had kids until they were 65! i think thats a bit far fetched but im not sure - cant find n e thing on free bmd / familysearch thanks for your time & patience sam
