Hello. There is much discussion about medals and Barry has stated the case from MOD point of view. However there is a Medallion available from www(.)bigburymint(.)co(.)uk which can be worn provided it isn't worn in uniform or touching any other medals. Some people wear them on the right breast. In the circumstances you outline you might like to look at that idea. Regards. Keith

Hi rosemary, I know my dad didn't go overseas so he wouldn't be eligible for that. How lovely they sent your brother his medal straight away. My best wishes to you both. Dianex

Hi Diane I don't know about a National Service medal but there is one for national Servicemen who served in Egypt during the Suez Crisis, my brother applied for one 2 months ago and because he has been diagnosed with cancer they have sent him his medal straight away, I think there is a 12 month wait otherwise, there is a website for the suez campaign medal. Thanks for your answers. I think the site you mention Paul is the one I found before. It is obviously not an official medal which is a bit misleading as I thought it was when I first found it. It said you had to have army numbers etc. When I looked for it again I came up with that page you found Barry which made me think it wasn't. Thanks for your kind words that means a lot to me. My dad has been ill since his mid 50's really, he is now 65 and his quality of life is very poor. Thanks once again for all your help Dianex

Found it:-) Type National+Service+Medal into the address bar. It will take you straight to a site. Paul

If I remember correctly, there was an unofficial National Service Medal available. If you contact your local Royal British Legion, they should be able to help you with any information. Paul

I think that there were medals available, if the man served in the right area, eg cyprus, aden etc, but not for the general 2years national service. I spent my time on a "home" (Baor)posting, so no medal. bob

Thanks for that, unfortunately he never wears them, especially now. He's having a lot of muscle spasms in his shoulders. Cheers Diane

Hi Geoff, Thanks, saved me £30. My dad did his national service in the 50's. I was hoping to get him a medal. His health isn't good, due mainly to Parkinsons, I was hoping to cheer him up!! for Fathers Day. Back to the drawing board. Thanks Diane

Can anybody help. I heard somewhere a medal for National Servicemen was available. I found a website and sent for their brochure. Can't find it now, but when I googled found a site saying there was no plans to give a medal for this. Does this mean the website I originally found was not giving authorised medals. They were around £30. Any advice, please I would be grateful Thanks Diane
