Yes to echo Jane do not give up on this as the NA is a marvellous place to go to get the information on so many things. Just to say again look closely at their leaflets and have a holiday down here with several ideas as to other things that you may want to access through the NA. There are other things to do if you get fed up with Kew.The staff are very helpful and a day will go nowhere!! Good luck. Janet

Thanks for the advice, Jane. Will have to save my pennies to visit London. Will get there one day! Jackie

Hi, Just to agree with Janet - for naturalisation certificates/info, you really do need to go to the PRO at Kew. You will need some idea as to the year it was granted. Next you look for a reference number in a book in the central reference library, then you take the reference number and go to the doc reading room and order up the book containing that certificate. Then, as you might imagine, you can get a photocopy. A very kind enquiries assistant guided me through the process - and said that there would be more information available such as a copy of the application papers. However, I had run out of time there and did not pursue it. Don't give up on it - it's just that PROCAT can't adequately explain or show you the records in this area ... it's quite good for other things. Happy hunting. Regs Jane

Thanks Janet. Thought it was me! Why can't they make their search engines user friendly! Jackie

You will get very little ACTUAL info on the PROCAT site. It is helpful to have been to the NA and know your way around because each document has a unique number which you have to enter. For example some soldiers records are in WO 97 but then on top of that you have to know the piece number so you have to input 3 lots of numbers to access but even then you are mainly just accessing to order up online pre a visit to the National Archives. You can order up to 3 documents on line pre a visit which does save a fair bit of time when you get there. Very little info will be available for you to see online. You can download all of their leaflets(About 200!!) Best to try to download the one of interest on Naturalisation and see where you go from there. It may give you all the numbers you want but as I say this will not give you the info you require. A visit is the usual way to get the info from the NA. Hope this helps. Janet

What am I doing wrong? Went onto PROCAT in the hope of finding the naturalisation of my maternal gparents and when they entered the country (around 1910-1915). I am met with a maze of boxes with numbers and really haven't a clue where to start searching. Lists are now supposed to be online on this site, acocording to their monthly newsletter but think I need a PhD to find out how to use the site. Was it designed by men from Mars, or is it me? Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction??? Jackie
