I am tracing the Stubbings family from Birdbrook in Essex. By using BMd certificates and parish registers, I have traced my direct line back to John Stubbings in 1804 and have built up a large family of Stubbings also in birdbrook. This goes back to Richard Stubbings Son of William also about 1806. I susspect they are brothers but can't prove it. I cannot find John's birth certificate in the parish registers..even though all his family came from there. His marriage entry in the parish register does not show his fathers name, neither does his marriage license. Is there any other way of tracing someones father when the parish register doesn't help Richard Stubbings is not a direct relative. I need to find out about john to go back further. One other thing. in the 1891 census a descendent of John is living at the same address as a descendent of Richard..surely not a coincidence. Anyone any ideas how, as a novice I might get back further?

Just a thought....Is there a marriage for William in Birdbrook? If not I wonder whether William moved to Birdbrook after the birth of son John in 1804 and before that of Richard in 1806. Or maybe the family moved to a neighbouring parish to work and then returned, producing John in the meantime. Perhaps a search of neighbouring parishes will find your John's baptism.
