Hi, It maybe that the bride was not of legal age to marry without her father's consent and so they lied at the first wedding. I think this could make it invalid - which may explain the second marriage. Gwynne |

I have a soldier ancestor married in 1875 in the Brides home town of Farnham. They were both recorded as of full age. Their first child was born 18 months later. In 1879 they married again at Portsea. The surnames were very unusual so i think theyre the same people. Details on both certificates are the same except for age date and location.Any ideas why? |
