my grandmother and grandfather were cousins, their mothers were sisters. also, after my great grandfather's first wife died he married her niece! consequently my tree can get a little confusing!

I've always wondered, if your parents are cousins (not that mine are) would that mean that you are also couisin-once-removed to your parents as well as son/daughter ? Simon

I use a relationships calculator (also in Deb's List) at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/krakow/relations.asp On the top line (Its all relative !) there are two entry fields. click on "additional utilities" and then select "show all relationships" or "cousins:1st, 2nd. 3rd etc" it's all there !!

That made me laugh Pam, I think it is all too easy to put our ancestors up on a pedestal , but they were all as naughty as we are! Present company excluded of course....Te He!! Sam

Thanks Samantha, Helen and Lisa for your help. All I have to do now is explain it all to mum who is a bit confused with all this family history, is 76 and a bit deaf and is still trying to get over the shocks of my genealogy findings such as her grandmother and great grandmother both having a child before marriage and her great uncle in Lewes prison at the time of the 1881 census !!! She hasn't yet asked me not to mention it to the neighbours but it will come !!! Many thanks..................Pam

I thought that made them your First cousins once removed?! Oh my mistake, you're second cousins!! Does that make your mum their 1st cousin once removed?

Pamela, the grandchildren of your grandfather's brother are your 2nd cousins. Your mother is their first cousin once removed [i.e. one generation removed].

BROTHER ------------ BROTHER CHILDREN cousin's of CHILDREN CHILDREN 2nd cousin's of CHILDREN Your relationship with them is 2nd cousin, starting with the 2 brothers, their children would be each others cousins, therefore, making their children 2nd cousins. I think the same relationship also applies to your mum, she would be a cousin of their parents, but 2nd cousin to the children. .......I think!
