Thanks for your replies so far. Have sent an email to Rachael concerning a 2003 search. Crista, I did a search on the BT site and it found someone with the same initials and surname but a different address (same town). So, I need to confirm for definite her latest address to make sure I don't start mailing the wrong person! Update: just looked on Multimap and this other address is only 2 streets away from the address that I have on the 2001 telephone directory.

Hi Andy, Personally, I think you have got nothing to lose and possibly a lot to gain by contacting this woman. You could always write to her and explain that you are tracing your family tree and that her name came up on your G uncle's death cert. As for age, I got my dad to contact his aunt whom he had not seen for about 20+ years and she was telling him how she had just got back from a holiday to Ben Nevis, She is nearly 90 !! She was a mine of info about the family. I have got 2003 disks if you want me to look her up for you. Sue:-)

Andy, If her phone number is listed she can't be ex-directory so you should be able to find her on the BT site which is up to date. Crista

Hi guys n'gals, Got a bit of an interesting dilemma that I'm hoping you can advise me on. For a long time now, I've been trying to trace my great uncle's family and little by little, I've managed to track down my great uncle's movements until his death in 1956. I learned that he had a son (means he's a direct first cousin of my dad), and managed to obtain his son's birth, marriage and death certificates. On his son's death certificate in 1994, the witness is his widow, however it's a different name to the one on his marriage certificate so clearly he married again at some point. I have a cd at home for the 2001 UK telephone directory and so did a look-up on that for his widow. I found a match, and the actual place name and street name matches with the details I have on my dad's cousin's death certificate (the telephone number is also quoted). Assuming this person has not passed away since 2001, this is the only living person that I've found so far who has links to this side of the family. She represents my best chance of pursuing this line further and whilst I feel that I would need to write, I'm not quite sure how best to tackle this as it's more than likely that she's an elderly lady. My own aunt turns 90 this next month and it would be nice to be able to show her that I've found someone linked to our family. What next? Andy.
