Hi Anne-Marie For the places you mention the Tyne and Wear Rcord Office in Newcastle has a lot of useful information and quite good opening hours. You may need to book a film reader. Newcastle Central Library has a useful collection of material. The Northumberland Record Office in Morpeth has a good colection of material, but can get crowded as the space is a bit tight. Booking a reader is therefore advisable. They close for lunch. If you go in to GENUKI and look up Northumberland, and perhaps Durham if you want places south of the river Tyne, go to the heading 'Archives and Libraries' in each case to find links to or details of the various centres. Best wishes Stan

Anne- Marie When you get here book a film/fische reader at the records office, depending on what you want to look at, and tell them what you are looking for, they might get it ready for you, could save you a lot of time! And with the time you have saved I would hit the the Metro Centre! hope you have a good credit card balance!! :-))))) shops galore, heaven!!! :-))))))))))) Kim

Hi there, Hope you enjoy your visit. I think this website might help you find records in the Newcastle area http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/newcastle.html You don't need to be a member of any organisation to visit local records offices. A lot of county records offices expect you to hold a readers ticket but will issue one when you visit if you have passport or other evidence of identity. Also you might need to phone in advance to book a microfilm reader or check that the documents you want to see are available. If you get to London the Family Records Centre in Myddleton Strret, Islington holds birth, marriage and death indexes and censuses for all of England and Wales. You don't need to book or have a readers ticket. Their website is http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk Regards Judith

Hello, I will be in England for a couple of months from June. Mainly the Northeast:- Newcastle/Wallsend/South Shields area's and would like to know the best places to visit for my research. Do I have to belong to any Genealogy group to enable me to visit. As I have not visited any archive places at all not sure what the procedure is. Any help gratefully appreciated. Anne-Marie Levin N/Z
