Minor and age of consent information. Who has the

I have just received a marriage certificate and in the age column it said minor. After making Inquires this is what I found out. From 1837 until 1929 a female could marry at 12 and a male at 14 years of age. They would need the parents consent up till the age of 21. Valerie

My great great Grandad Thomas Sales got married aged 16 to Annie Baxter 17yrs in Oldham,Lancs :~) George
