Im tracing the Jepps family of Steeple Bumpstead. I can find them all on the 1871 census and some of them appear on the 1881 census but not all then they reappear in1901. has anyone any sugestions why they would disappear and reappear. John Jepps b 1868 middlesex Mary Jepps b 1866 Hawick Scotland John Jepps b 1816 Hempstead Mary Jepps b 1818 hundon |

There could be a number of reasons;- Missed by the enumerator Somewhere else at the time (Scotland, Ireland, abroad) Mistranscribed Visitors to another district, etc. Paul |

Lesley, The Census doesn't necessarily give us the home address. On Census night you were recorded as where you slept that night. Maybe they were away on holiday at Aunty Mabel's that night. If they were at the same address over the thirty years you could still maybe find that address on the missing census and see who is living there, if anybody? Good luck Jim :-) |

They were probably mistranscribed.I spent ages looking for Macarees on 1901 census.Just before quitting I typed in my ggrandmothers first name (Cordelia)and up they popped as Marsee |
