So Linda, Have you worked out when Georgiana was born? Presumably before 1845? Jim

Georgiana's mother Maria Rebecca Hall (Spinster) Georgiana baseborn, married in 1867 a George Chantler so all through the different census's Georgiana has been known as either Hall or Chantler although on her marriage cert to John Hill and even as witness to her mothers marriage she was known as Georgiana Campbell I presume this might have been her fathers surname - confussed? The other brickwall is that on her son's birth cert - going by the 1881 census John Chantler b 1858 his parents were John Chantler and Georgiana Chantler nee Hall -as yet I have been unable to find if this marriage exists. Why was Georgiana Campbell nee Chantler? Was she married to someone else at the time? Heather

Hello again Heather I have asked for an 1861 lookup giving the address as 32 Leybourne Rd, Camden Town, but unfortunately no familiar names pop up, in 1871 Georgiana is Mrs Hill. On Peter Campbell's birth cert 1861 his father Peter McGregor is working on the Railway as a Shunter so I even went in the 1881 on LDS and sifting through going by the job - no luck there either. It's good that his name is on the certificate, have you looked at the census records? Was Georgiana living with him when the child was born? Heather

Hello Heather Georgiana never married until 1868 to John Hill so Peter was baseborn. So it's a case of how do I find out about his father Peter McGregor. Lin

Hi Linda, I think you should be looking for the marriage of Peter Mcgregor to Georgiana and perhaps it would be a good idea to look before and after than the birth date. Sometimes though when you get these double surnames you find that the parents didn't marry. Heather
