Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. I'm gradually trying to trace my best friends birth father and yesterday obtained further information. According to the adoption files in 1973 he worked for a company called Hudson Bay as a Warehouse Manager whilst residing in Hammersmith, London. I don't know the best places to try and establish where this company may have been or whether it still exists. Any help is naturally greatly appreciated. Neil

hI It's best to try the local studies library for that area. They usually keep copies of the Kellys Directories or other business dir. So you could look up the company, and when it no longer appears, it could be the company has finished or moved away. Linda

Hudson's Bay Company Archives are held here: http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/archives/hbca/ I'm sure one of my geneaogy mags has a piece about tracing relatives who worked for Hudson's bay - I'll see if I can dig out out from paper mountain this evening

me again it may help if you put Hudson's Bay in the title of your question. The company was huge and I'm sure there must be someone on genes who can help you more thporoughly

try using online trade directories. I stumbled across them when looking for my grandfather in 1897. there must surely be more recent ones somewhere. good luck!!!!!

This site has numerous historical directories online - not sure of the year ranges, but it's good! www(.)historicaldirectories(.)org Jan

National Archives have company records but you may or may not be lucky in obtaining the records as only so many are kept and many are destroyed. You could also try Companies House in London, do not know their web adress but a google search should find them. If you have time in London you can also track the company down through Kellys which someone else has already suggested. Janet
