Tracey Iknow the feeling! That extra wait makes it even more exciting. The you look at the certificates and find they raise more questions than they answer - and that's if you can decipher them!

hi tracy, i know how you feel,i got my first cert.today as well!! i've been looking at all day! to think i've got that bit of history in my hands! it's such a lovely feeling isn't it! mine is the marriege cert.of my g.grandparents, and it appears g.granddad could'nt write!! next to his name is this:"his x mark". g.gran.was 26,but i have her as born 1874-75, the cert is 1897,so that makes her born 1871!! i will have to delve into that one, anybody got any ideas?? chris.

I know just how you feel! I knocked down a huge brick wall yesterday and can't wait for the cert to arrive it has taken me almost 6months to find it. Good luck with your future research. Linda

Hi Christine, Take ages on marriage certificates with a large pinch of salt as I've found that a lot of people in my family lied about their ages (or just didn't know how old they were). Even with a full set of birth, marriage and death certificates quite a few of the ages don't tally. At least the birth certificate is usually correct. Kath

thanks everyone, i now have the name of g.granddads father, so will try to find him now,it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!! one thing i have found out is that g.gran had her first child four and half years before they were married!! and she was pregnant with her second when she married! her first was named after his father, the second was named after his fathers father.in the bible that was handed down from g.grans mother are the birth dates, and there is a five year gap between the two! it's like putting a jigsaw together,it all falls into place!!! what a sin in those days!! and i don't think she told any of the family! not that i know of,unless they kept it secret! little did she know her g.granddaughter would find out! chris.
