Christopher Its probably no help but could Hazel have been a middle name? I loked on Ancestry and searched 1890-1910 and found nobody called Hazel Carter but found the following: William Hazel Carter b1898 Somerset Winifred Hazel Carter b1899 Wiltshire Ivy Hazel Carter b1903 in Norfolk Hazel Kathleen Carter b1906 Norfolk Obviously they would have moved away from Gloucester if this is them but these were the only Hazel Carters that came up in England for the right kind of date. Dunno about the William Hazel but thats definatly what ancestry said. Hope it helps Lindsey

I think this could be Edward in 1881 because a) born in Wales, b) now in Gloucester c) grooms often became coachmen. If you can help with any information on this one I would be eternally grateful. Edward Herbert a married domestic coachman from Wales had an affair with Jennett Smart, sometime around 1889-1890 resulting in the birth of a daughter Ellen Clementina.on 21st of June1890 at Horsley Gloucester. At a later date Edward returned to his wife leaving Jennett and her daughter. Jennett later married a Mr Carter (Forename and date of marriage as of yet unknown) and they had a daughter called Hazel. Now the thing is on Ellen’s birth certificate the mothers name is noted as being Jennett Herbert formerly Smart (I’m 99% certain they were not actually married but Jennett may have used the name of Herbert for the sake of respectability. I can find none of the above relatives in either the 1881 or 1901 census and can find no information on FBDM. If anyone can help with suggestions or is able to do look ups to find any of the above I would be forever in your debt. Yours Chris
