Hi Maggie I dont think the London Metropolitan Archives will hold the records of the West Ham Union Workhouse as West Ham was classed as part of Essex. I did find this on one of the Websites about the West Ham Union Workhouse, hope it is helpful. Records: Newham Archive and Local Studies Library , Straford, London E15. Holdings include: Guardians' Minutes (1836-42, 1844-61, 1873-5, 1884-1930). Waltham Forest Archives and Local Studies Library, Vestry House Museum, Walthamstow. Holdings include: Central Home admissions (1906-59, women and children only); Printed Guardians' Minutes (1906-8, 1912-13, 1922-26, 1929-30); etc. The address for this Website is: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/WestHam/WestHam.html Kind Regards Sharon

You could try the London Metropolitean Archives. They have some workhouse records.

Hi Diane, Yes I've looked at this site, but I really need to know if there are any of the original records kept anywhere of admissions etc that I can get details from. Maggie

I found my Grandad and his twin brothers in the West Ham Union Workhouse on the 1901 Census. Their Mother died 1895 and their Father remarried 1898. I am curious as to when and who put them in there and when they came out, is there anyway I can find out, did they keep records of how long they were in there and who put them in? Maggie
