OK, this is a slightly odd one, I wonder if anyone can advise. I've just started tracing the wife's family for her... got details of her grandfathers birth... found the entry on 1837, mothers maiden name stated as Parker (fathers is Croft). Looked up the parents marriage. Went under the fathers name first, found an entry, right time period, right place. Searched the same quarter for the surname Parker and couldn't find a match ! Am stumped... I guess I could order a certificate from the fathers details, but I'm surprised I couldn't find "the other half"... and advice ?

Hi Paul Daft question! Can we take it that you ordered the grandfathers birth cert in order to get his parents names? Jeanette

Not a daft question at all, quite a sensible one in fact. No I didn't... I took the information from a tree on here, my wife's Aunt is also just starting to trace the family tree. I've mailed her to ask her to confirm the information...

Hi Paul I'd wait for confirmation from your wifes Aunt. My first reaction would be to say that you haven't found the right Croft if you can't find the Parker to match. When you get the info from wifes Aunt, if you still have trouble locating the marriage then I'd send for grandfathers birth cert and conduct your own research. I'm not dissing your Aunts research, but I always like to double check any info I'm given by others. Hope this helps Jeanette

I'm sure you're right - her research should be OK though, I gave her plenty of advice when she started looking :)
