I was looking through New Names Added yesterday and when I came to the surname Rispin (i only have 1 in my tree) there had been loads of new names added with a red contacted by the side of them. I don't remember contacting anyone about this name. When I click on the envelope it gives the name Patricia to contact. There are no Patricias in my Contacts list. Any ideas? Jeanette

I think this may just be a glitch, if you go into "your contacts" you should find that you haven't actually contacted them. tricia

Hi Jeanette You must have contacted Patricia about another surname, not necessarily Rispin. When you make contact with another member, any other name in that persons tree will have "CONTACTED" by it, regardless of which name you contacted them about. Have a look in "your contacts" and you will see Patricia there, it will also say who you contacted her about. This will answer your question unless you have more than one Patricia in your contacts of course, in that case it will take you longer to get to the bottom of it. HTH SAM

If you email someone through this site, just to say thanks for helping for eg., does the red contacted message come up then?? I've often wondered about that. I'm sorry to say I delete those ones because I would get completely confused if they remained in my contacts list - I find it quite hard to keep track as it is! However I noticed that the red message stays with a 'real' contact, even when they have been deleted because they turn out not to be connected to me. Anne

Jacqueline, thanks. But what if I click on your own name and send you a message that way? I've had quite a few people send a thank you message, which is lovely, but they all go into 'my contacts' and that's what confuses me! Must be getting old!! Anne

Anne I was under the impression that if you contacted someone through the site, be it because you are interested in their tree or just to thank them, then you would get the red contacted thing. That's why, like you, I then go back and delete the ones I don't particularly need in there. I did have a Patricia contact me a few days ago and deleted her from my contacts but I still have the red contact thing by the name. Perhaps it takes a few days to register or maybe I have to wait until she deletes me from her contacts. Jeanette
