Help on finding home for girls!!

Can anyone help.I have recently found out that my ggrandmother was supposed to be put in a home for girls around 1870ish because her father thought boys were more use.I do have a name but have tried on the search engines but no luck.Any ideas please.

Thanks Suzanne,forgot to put that bit. St Louis home for girls.I presuming it must be in Kent because that what where they lived.

Jeniene, It might be worth researching via current organisations. My father was placed in a home, 30 years after you are looking, but the home has since come under the Children's Society. (They were able to find my father's records in the archives, even though the file was closed in 1913. ) It is worth a try. My father's children's home was in Kent too. Hope you have success!
