How do I know which is the right person?

Thanks very much for the advice. I've just checked through all my info and realised I had an 1851 census showing Thomas living in wolverhampton but born in Burton. Don't know how I missed it. I've spent so long on this family I've forgotten what information I have and haven't got. Thank you for the help. Jen ( feeling foolish in the midlands) : D

Hi, The IGI is far from complete so it's possible that neithr is right. If you locate him on census you can search the parish records of the area where he says he was born. Hope this helps, Gwynne

I realise their births will not be on FreeBMD, but if you look for "anytime, anyplace anywhere" you may find marriages, deaths and births of children which give a clue to to where they were at a given time. I realise that neither of them appear to be on the 1881 census but, as Kathryn says, censuses may help.

Have you found Thomas and William on any census? It might state place of birth as being one of those two. The other possibility is that Thomas isn't on IGI and neither of those records are him.

I've got the marriage certificate for my ggggrandfather. I know his fathers name was William Feakes. Thomas Age is given as Full age so I assume he was over 21. I've looked at the IGI and found 2 possible births/baptisms of Thomas Feakes in the 1820's both with fathers name William. One in Burton on Trent and one in Birmingham. How can I find which one is mine?
