When people married before 1837, did they receive any paper confirming/proving their marriage? Jan

NOT SURE, BUT IF YOU LOOK ON WWW.UK-GENEALOGY.ORG.UK THERE ARE ALOT OF MARRIAGES PRE 1837 IF YOUR SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE SANDRA

I've found lots of pre-1837 marriages, even have copies of the entries for a couple of them. I just wondered whether the bride was given a copy of anything to take away and keep. Jan
