Was it common for a christening to occur a couple of years after birh. I have a Thomas Stoddart in my tree, born around 1819 in Northumberland. The only record of a christening I can find for a Thomas Stoddart in this area on IGI was in 1822 - 2 or 3 years after his birth. Was this common or is it unlikely to be the right bloke? Lindsey

Did they have more than 1 child because sometimes the parents saved money by christening several children at once.

It would appear they didnt as only one child is listed in his family at the point of the christening but I guess its a possibility. I will certainly have a look into it. Thanks for the advice - its given me something to think about Lindsey

Thanks Sue - I think this must be the one I am looking for. Even Joseph is a family name so it seems to make sense. Thanks for your help with this - I really appreciate it. Lindsey

Lindsey, There are more Stothart's listed for the same church, I didn't list them because of the difference in name, but if you want them just let me know. Sue

Sue I think what I have at the moment is ok thanks. I think the difference in name probably rules them out. Thanks for you offer and you help tho. Its very much appreciated. Lindsey
